I assume you had an underbite?

For people with overbites, the goal is to bring the mandible forward, but the use of elastics also pushes the maxilla back. If you have a retainer, you are maintaining your jaws in this state, when the ideal solution would be jaw surgery to move the jaws forward.

it's funny. when I was in fucking kindergarten I already knew not to suck my thumb so that I wouldn't get an open bite, for some reason this is common knowledge. then I must've been 6 at most when it occurred to me that I have an overbite and thought hey maybe if you suck your thumb you get an open bite then maybe I'm doing something wrong to have an overbite. of course it's hard to know that all the food you eat is not normal but rather soft shit, that you weren't breastfed so your tongue is weak and you never exercise and wear shoes so your posture is shit if that's all you've known in the 6 years you've lived. then we went to the jews and the bitch gave me some plastic shit to put in my mouth that always fell off and was giga uncomfortable. then I got extracted and braces. what did not occur to me is that I knew more about craniofacial development as a 6 year old than the 40 year old hag that studied it for 10 years
