Only when we're dying of thirst maybe

The water back then had a lot more nutrients so they needed less I think?

It's cool how they found that out.

Their thought process was probably something like this

that what people used to do is no indication of that said thing being optimal, for instance, in the 60s, people on average only gooned for 30 minutes a day, while 3 hours is optimal, your just autistic. hope this helps.

They died earlier than us right? So it's probably not a good thing that they didn't drink much water, since lack of availability doesn't necessarily indicate that the respective substance is harmful for the body (just stating this, im not hinting that you had a negative view on the topic)

Yeah maybe more water is a good thing

The water they had was spring water which way better than the water we get now though

Human beings evolved to drink more water than their primate ancestors due to the presence of eccrine sweat glands in our body which depend on water and electrolytes to produce sweat. So humans do need more water than our primate ancestors if you were talking abt that in the OP.

And about spring water, there seems to be conflicting opinions online. But it definitely didn't have chlorine or estrogenics from birth control pills so water at the time must've been better in some ways, but a proper filtration system wasn't available back then. Each has its pros and cons but more harmful microorganisms were definitely present in water during ancient times I guess.

Some info I got online:
Both spring water and tap water are extracted from natural or underground sources. In 60% of cases, spring water is extracted from the same layer in the ground as tap water. In that respect, tap water is not that different from spring water.
