A commentary I wrote a few months back, from my first few months in college:

I don’t feel like writing a long essay, but in essence, people in high school or college imitate the clique that they’re told to fit into. That’s why for example you don’t meet White Chads that are interested in astrophysics. I’ve noticed a pattern that the people in sororities or frats tend to have the same type of build. During the last week of high school, I predicted which of the White kids at my school, would end up joining a frat. Guess what, I went 100% in my predictions. It’s like you can predict 3 o’clock from noon. Now, you could say this is because these people genuinely fit well with frats which is probably true, but most tall White guys I meet are in frats. It’s not some mere coincidence. Where are the nerdy tall White guys that are interested in computer science? I think based on the way we look (race, class, etc.), we are expected to fulfill some sort of social role in society. Whether that be the jock, nerd, theater kid, etc. (I’m simplifying but you get the point) These societal expectations end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy for people, leading them to be obedient to the social role they’re expected to play. At the end of the day, the social hierarchy is there to filter out those that are the most genetically fit, and any misalignments to this “genetics hierarchy,” could destabilize the whole social order. That’s why you could basically predict a person’s personality or clique based on the way they look. For all we preach about in America, about individuality, it seems as though we’re given by some invisible hand a character that we have to play in society to be seen as normal (think Overwatch). People say that Bill Gates and these nerds were the rebels of society, but from birth on, from the influences of their parents, their looks/pheno, etc., it was destined for them to be nerds.

Ultimately, it’s made me feel a sense of nihilism to see copy-and-paste characters. There seems to be no sense of individualism or true self-expression. Every conversation with these normies is hollow and uninteresting since I know what they’re going to say.

These are just thoughts I had contemplating about life, while eating at the dining hall.
