On the hot topic of water retention. There are two main hormones such as Vasopressin aka ADH and aldosterone.
Vasopresin(ADH) is produced by hypothalamus and stored at posteruir pituitary gland, it acts as natural anti-diuretic.
Aldosterone is produced by adrenal cortex it retains sodium as sodium has water retaining properties.
The reason you are retaining water on the face comes from your body think you are dehydrated thus over producing these hormones. Now you might be thinking how can you be dehydrated, well there are so many things but generally it might be electrolytes imbalanced as in wrong ratio or your blood pressure too low while standing up(some people have hypovolumic POTS) imagine your blood pool is at 75%/100% all the time. while lying down your brain and heart get nourished because gravity doesnt decrease cerebral blood flow but upon standing or sitting still for too long without a good autonomic system for vasoconstriction when standing will lead to blood pooling on the lower half of the body, hence lower blood flow to the brain and heart, this will in turn make the brain to signal these 2 aforementioned hormones to secret even more despite you are not dehydrated. One of the solution is to wear compression garments the strenght as in mmhg will depends on individual needs.
There are many factors but those are expected to be known already as a looksmaxxer this one is a bit next level physiological understanding of the regulation, so knowing this might be useful for counteracting water retention.
