My mom noticed my growing acne, without even addressing me, she bought very expensive exfoliator, cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, acne cream, etc. I am trying to make her understand that it’s because of my hormones and gut health but she doesn’t fucking listen and says that skin care is the best fix. What should I do? I don’t wanna put bunch of toxic chemicals on my skin.

Read carefully, I took my time writing this.

Step 1: Be grateful for her. She only has positive intentions for you and even bought "expensive" skincare.

Now, skincare isn't fucking toxic like you believe it is, hormones aren't that easily changeable and that skincare is toxic means it enters your blood stream and interacts with different receptors, which it can't first because of its molecular weight and second because skincare doesn't contain any harmful ingredients. Also lets say some products have estrogen-like effects, that wouldn't even be bad trust me.

Also about the efficacy of skincare regarding acne: Since I started my skincare routine my skin improved drastically and I have a tretinoin-like "glow" and cleanness. Obviously that isn't a permanent solution but from what I told you previously you should have realised skincare isn't the holy grail of the evil.

What you can do to fix your acne permanently though is trying tretinoin for some months which should be pretty much water to you. If you are willing to take more risks you can even use isotretinoin which will help your skin on your whole body and overall have more systemic effects speaking of positive and negative at the same time, though the sides are overrated. If you have some kind of mixed skin you should definitely try isotretinoin.

For gut health just stop eating goyslop really, ceasing to do that improves it in 99% of cases anyway. Eat more whole foods in general.

That's it pretty much.

exfoliator, cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen
those are essential stuffs, and maybe add adapalene (retinol). Cleanser, moisturiser, suncreen will only benefit you, especially when its very expensive
