oxidative stress and skin

DNR: oxidative stress = aging, hyperpigmentation, spots, skin cancer
how counter :antioxidants, limit exposure to blue light , pollution and stress

An important target is the melanocytes (the cells that produce melanin). When they are oxidatively stressed, they produce melanin in a disordered way → leading to the appearance of dark spots, discoloration, and hyperpigmentation.

The same process also accelerates the loss of collagen and elastin, causing drier skin, premature wrinkles, and reduced elasticity.

In the long run, oxidative stress even contributes to an increased risk of skin cancer, because it damages DNA.

In practice: the more free radicals you have that remain unneutralized, the more your skin ages and gets damaged.
The body counteracts them with antioxidants (vitamin C, E, glutathione, carotenoids, polyphenols,
etc.).
