The funny part about life is , pleasure is controlled by a small part of the brain (the Nucleus accumbens and the ventral palladium). This part while pretty well conserved, can be fucked entirely by chronic stress, SSRIs/ antipsychotics/ torture or PTSD etc. and will never truly revert back to a healthy homeostasis again. This is why you reminisce your childhood where the smell of books, sunlight casting a bespeckled pattern on a black board through your class windows , your crush's nape of the neck etc seemed magical and highly exciting. But due to our biology this is not to last and by the time you're in your 30s you already have slowed down dopamine production meaning things will never be as exciting or fun again (this is also why I plan to stay volcel until my 30s because I want something to look forward to)
But think about what is so heavily conserved instead? Pain. Pain is everywhere. When you knick your toes, when you bump into a pole while scrolling tiktok, when the coffee is a bit too hot. Even nostalgia IS more painful than most people think. You have pain nerves everywhere ,and the possibilities of pain are endless-heartbreak, grief, melancholy, a migraine, loneliness, brutal cartel face skinning etc etc the list goes on. There was only one reason for pain to even be so ubiquitous, it was a blind evolutionary defence mechanism to prevent you from being eaten by a tiger, running too hard and getting a heart attack or even roping (in fact your body is so stubborn that miss a self inflicted gunshot by a mm and youll be stuck in a paralyzed body until you die instead of being in Disneyland six feet under).
The only analogy I can even think of is that this is a prison ,more insidious than communist bunkers for PoW, or being a poor shitskin in Abu Ghraib. Even the most sturdy, stoic organism will eventually become sensitive to the mockery that is life. And unless we become machines or nuke ourselves into oblivion, we will be feeding Moloch with our suffering for eternity. Now philosophers and mystics have obviously figured this out, but these truths will remain abstractions in our current day capitalist/ industrial Weltanschauung, so we are doomed to basically just be passive victims of monstrous forces beyond comprehension.
