there has never been linguistic incompatibility in India that led to particularly huge tensions (since 1960s) ever since India was divided into provinces (we call it states) anyway on linguistic lines. Communal tensions have always been Hindu Muslim (and demand for sikh separatism/ Khalistan in 1984, ISI's involvement was in the open in it), usually covert operations by ISI and CIA or KGB or Separatist movements in North East India and demands for a maoist country or naxalites in pockets triggered by covert operations by CCP.
