Palate Expander After Braces

I’ve had braces for almost 2 years now (15 years old) and after 4 extractions I have a relatively narrow upper arch. My tongue only rests on the roof of my mouth while in contact with my teeth. I’ve been considering requesting a palate expander and restarting braces for a couple days now, but I’m also concerned about the risks. Not too worried about a failed split, but I’m unsure what the plan for my lower teeth/mandible will be. The way my teeth are currently straightened, my lower premolars tilt slightly inwards, so they could be repositioned to match my new bite, post-expansion.

Just wondering if its worth restarting braces for an expander (if i can even get approved), especially since my bite is almost fully fixed (within weeks), and my upper arch isn’t horribly narrow. Can send photos privately if needed.

yeah extractions is od if it isnt deformity tier ur dentist should be fired

my teeth were pretty fucked when i was younger, very overcrowded at the time i started braces. if they had straightened my teeth without extractions/expander my teeth would have been noticeably slanted forwards. I’m happy with the results of my braces, aside from the narrow top arch

I been exactly thinking this, i got braces for like years now and realising i need palate expander just when it's about to be taken off

I’m going to tell my dentist that I’m experiencing breathing issues (sleep apnea, mouth breathing) and suggest these problems are due to extractions/narrow palate, just to see if my ortho’s office even offers palate expanders and if they will even let me get one. Will update if I do switch to an expander, I plan to try and get a 3d expander like a 4 screw sagittal or a y plate if they let me.

They probably will not let me get one, as my lower jaw is already somewhat narrow compared to my upper jaw, so my maxilla doesn’t need expansion.

Ortho said extractions + retractive orthodontics don’t cause airway issues in the nose lmao. They wont give me a palate expander since I’m done with braces and starting vivera retainers. My parents refuse to cancel the retainers too, since they are expensive. Ropefuel atp

Yeah I want a palate expander cuz my small ass palate but my jaw is too narrow so it’d fuck me up

Isn’t ur jaw narrow cause u have a small/ recessed maxilla… that’d would make sense
