I think inequality in looks are lower now than in the past. iirc I read somewhere that the difference in average height between london orphans and high class schoolboys was like 17 cm or something crazy. And keep in mind how massive the dietary difference would have been between a farmhand or a poor industry worker and a high class person. Much lower than today anyhow
