NOTE: TLDR AT BOTTOM
Hi
I made this account just to basically post this rant and I decided to form my hypothesis about self delusion. I just can't take the fucking lying and gaslighting. I was on cuckit and r/tinder and the sheer delusion that people have is absolutely batshit insane. Here is just an example. It literally has "slightly above average" and "7/10" in the same exact sentence. 7/10 when taken literally means that you are the best looking in a room of people. 8/10 is model tier and only a small handful on this planet are 9/10 and by definition no one is 10/10. It is clear that many are self deluded in their own self (Water is wet ik) and I decided to form a hypothesis about where this delusion comes from:
1. Coping mechanism and cognitive dissonance
By lying about our self image we deflect negative emotions in our head. In a way delusion has helped us, because it allows us to focus on other things than wallow in depression about the way we look. This is the whole "cope or rope" idea. This in itself has many parts:
a) Denial: "I am adonis! I am adonis! I am adonis!"
b) Rationalization: "If they rejected me for my looks, then I am better off without this person." This is by far the most commonly heard copes on cuckit. People can't grasp that attraction is purely physical and any "vibe" or "chemistry" or apparent (emphasis on apparent) nuance is just your brain doing mental gymnastics to rationalize your own shallowness. The important thing to note is that these are subconscious thoughts and therefore people gaslight you about "vibes" or "chemistry" even though it is obvious bullshit. (again, water is wet)
c) Projection: This ties in with what I said in the last point. It is way to simply deflect hurtful thoughts onto others by calling other people names even though they are correct. Everyone does this. I do it and you do it. (water is wet)
2. Brainrot propaganda
In times when obesity rates are high the ideas of body positivity of course fly (and most importantly sell) very well. The human mind is fascinating since it can look at models and hot people and get aroused by them, but simultaneously think that fat people are somehow attractive, even though they themselves never find fat people attractive. Again, propaganda works on the subconscious mind. No one looks at a body positive ad and consciously thinks about it for more than a second, but subconsciously all of the ads you see and all the content you consume influence your thinking slightly each time. These nudges ultimately have the compound effect of influencing your behaviour EVEN IF you thought that they were complete bs consciously. (water is wet)
3. Dunning kruger
People who think they are the best looking are the people who put some, but not a lot of effort into their appearance. This is the dunning kruger effect in action. This effect is even amplified for example for overweight women who lost weight. Men fuck (almost) everything they see and when they see a woman who is somewhat in shape, of course they are going to swipe right. This creates the illusion of climbing to the top with the increase of matches when you only reached the midway point. The question is never "How good am I doing?", the question is always "How good am I doing compared the where I was earlier?". People think in relatives, not absolutes. The actually very good looking people often have near crippling body dysmorphia caused by their line of work (modelling) or just in general comparing.
The takeaways from this post (TLDR)
The best thing you can do is to not get stuck in echochambers (including this forum) or in your own head. Always remember that each thing you see and hear influences your thinking from advertisements to peoples opinions even though you consciously don't think about it. Including this very post. This is how propaganda and advertisements literally work. They aren't supposed to make you believe some ideology or to make you believe in some product in one go. It is to plant seeds in your mind that next time you think about a subject which tangentially links to that political ideology or that product, the political ad or just the general ad comes to mind. This is why it is important to not listen to propaganda. Beneath the thousand lies there is this tiny insignificant thing called the truth.
By conversing with different minded people (even if they are copers) you still get a better understanding of the world, than being stuck in echo chambers like algorithmically fed social media. Echo chambers (wether leftist or right wing, capitalist or communist etc etc) lead to self delusion in ones abilities and thoughts
