In looksmaxxing you will probably ask people for help, since a big part of the help is not medically-backed and with many variables in line there is always the cope vs non-cope question which come back. You doubt if the suggestions were good or bad and if it really benefits you.

Since I can call myself an oldcel (im in my mid twenties), I had many life experiences where people were suggesting me things that would benefit them primarly more than it would benefit me.

A) My university course choice
I live in Western Europe, once I got high school diploma I choose to get a bachelor degree ( 3 years long course) but keep in mind that the course changed from associate grade level (2 years long course) to a bachelor grade level (3 years) basically the new course is the same as the old one just you study for one more year.
Since it was a freshly new degree, you could still stop after the 2 initial years and get your associate grade degree.

Now you understand the situation, my plan was :

1) Finish the 2 years, get the associate degree.
2) Go to IT engineering university (3 more years, 2+3 = 5 years so equivalent to a master degree).

In my place IT engineering courses are a big halo. According to statistics IT engineers that graduate from a conform university are not enough for today's needs so graduate from one and you will never be jobless. Before starting my looksmaxxing journey, I wanted to careermaxx so bad and wanted to get the best course for my career so I started to ask my professors what to do? Some would say without filters that leaving after 2 years was the best, but this suggestion was always in a small voice like they haven't the right to say so. The other professors and the Head of Department wanted people so bad to stay for a 3rd year and would do much propaganda to do so. Apparently, it was an order from the university to convince students to stay.

Looking back, what made my doubt about my university choice is that they were the professors that I had everyday for like 2 years so in that case I would say it is "Appeal to Authority Fallacy".
The Appeal to Authority fallacy (also called argument from authority) is a logical error that happens when someone claims a statement is true only because an authority figure said it, instead of using valid evidence or reasoning. On the other side, the professors from the engineering university I've met said the third year that got added was shitty so better to stop with a 2 year diploma and get to their school.

Now you may think Im too low iq to not understand people do marketing for their business and I should listen to their suggestion with a grain of salt, but what made me doubt that time is the Appeal to Authority Fallacy . I saw the professors as some science guys who should be trusted as they were knowledgeable, I didn't see them as some sales managers...

In the end, I got accepted to the Engineering school but couldn't go as I didn't find the mandatory internship needed to start studying there so I continued the course with the 3rd year.

B) Steroid documentation experience
As I am a skinny framecel I decided to start steroids to get fit and athletic. Basically I joined a forum to ask for sources and it they are trustworthy or not, but according to the forum rules every new member needs to write a presentation. So I did and the members here were so rude at me due to ideology differences (dumb roiders start roiding once they get to their natty limit in their 30s, looksmaxxers start roiding without even getting to their natty limit).
I won't go into the details since it's not the goal of this thread but they started to tell me very dumb things such as "roids wont help you at all".
This is where it got interesting, I showed them a study saying some patients grow muscles just with test injection without even going to the gym (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8637535/).
This is what one of them responded:
1766775343354

"Are you talking about the study on 40 participants, or the one where only 20 received 600 mg of testosterone per week and only 10 without training?
Indeed, a sample that small has no real value."

This man got to pissed by me that he even started invaliding a real medical study JFL :lul::lul:

Note : I know really well roids will work less with a bad diet, training and rest but saying that It won't work at all is outraging propaganda.

Conclusion
Why do I think this matters?
In communities focused on looksmaxxing, roiding, or even just self-improvement in general, it’s extremely easy to get misled—especially when advice is backed by the appeal to authority fallacy.

You should always ask yourself: Does this advice benefit the person giving it, or are they genuinely trying to help?
In the university example, the institution’s interest was clear—the student staying in the same course worked in their favor.
With roiding, a lot of the advice was more subtle but just as biased. Their suggestions were often backhanded, coming from people who didn’t want someone outside their “typical steroid user profile” to try it, improve, and get solid gains anyway.
