i wont lie to myself....whatever you do is for yourself...the most selfless act, i.e., helping others, is for your own self too. you prolly hate yourself for example or feel guilty for some reason and need to help someone to make that feeling go away. so again its for yourself. that seems like the basic universal principles for humans
in this situation, i wont lie to myself by acting like i "genuinely" care about others while being convinced that others "genuinely" dont care about me

This does not mean you must befriend everyone since most people are bad-natured and untrustworthy, but it does mean that you should build friendships with a few trustworthy people you admire. You are just leading yourself to self-destruction by only caring about yourself.
