'Popular kids' = Just good looking?

What exactly makes the so called 'popular kids' at school popular other than the fact that they are just good looking and so people seek their company because they want to bed them? Are there ever any popular kids at school that aren't good looking?

Tbh the more I think about just how comically shortchanged we've all been simply by the merit of not being good looking enough I want to kill myself. Quality of life for good looking people is literally a thousand times better in every single possible way.

Most were average looking when i was in highschool but they came from bigger schools where more students knew them going into highschool so they already had the status prior

That’s not what I meant by status halo. Status in high school is a combination of how many people you know, how many people know you, what parties you’ve been to, what you’re associated with, who you’re associated with, if you play sports or if you’re in another niche

Most popular kids are popular because being on the football teams gives them higher status than the nerds, and football players tend to be more fit so they look more alpha than the nerds and they tend to have better social skills too, which is why they get the hottest girls.

But then, when they go into the real world, if they don't focus on maintaining or improving their physical appearance, they can deteriorate over time and end up with much less success with girls than before.

Of course, some guys who did football in high school will keep doing it in college and end up maintaining their level of status, but then, very few of them actually go on to play in the NFL, so most of them end up working at low paying jobs because most of their talent lies in social interactions and physical prowess, not academic success, so when they leave college, they usually become unable to get laid as easily, and their ability to attract women start to look more like the average man.

As for the nerds, they usually manage to get a high paying job after college or they start their own business and get rich from that, so even though they are incels in high school and college, when they get older, they are much more attractive to women than the jocks, so they get the last laugh. But not all nerds end up becoming that successful, some fail as badly as the jocks, since success is not pre-determined but depends mostly on how much effort you are willing to put in.

I think just like life outside of high school, looks play a huge role but other things like money, status, and social skills can play a big role as well. Most popular kids are at least decent looking but they are also usually from a good background, or have really good socializing ability, or they are really good at a particular sport, etc

The popular guys in my highschool were all chadlite or higher level. Money doesn't mean much as long as you are not poor tbh.
