Religion in America will collapse and the religious right will go down with it. The new right that arises will be a hyper-populist, ultra nationalist right wing that is similar to trump now but much more hardline.

Islam or nuclear bomb

US is consisting of too many ethnicities. They'll never become ultra nationalist right wing.

That would fuel the ultra nationalist right wing even further. Non Hispanic whites that become more secular but are scared of the implications of demographic change will vote for a right wing ultra-nationalist.

They will probably turn either muslim or the entire religion aspect gets thrown away.

us religious ppl crazy

US is only like 56% non-hispanic white. That'd require full support of all whites. Not gonna happen.

Religion can never be thrown out in America. Even the people who identify as religiously unaffiliated still mostly believe in god.

You’re also forgetting the Hispanics and blacks who claim themselves as white and would gladly vote for a white nationalist

like the girl on the left, you can see her negroid/Hispanic face but she was horrified when I said she looked Cuban (she is)

They won’t get full support of whites, sure. But they can maybe crack 60-65%white support in this scenario.. Blacks have a good chance of getting onboard with an ultra nationalist leader when you consider the fact that they are anti-migration and don’t like Hispanics.

I meant in the sense of legal right and power in politics

I’m not talking about a white nationalist. A white nationalist can never win in America. The time for that was the 60’s at the latest.

By ultra-nationalist I’m talking about a more extreme version of someone like Le pen, or Nigel farage. Or trump.

The religious right are rich.

They won't let that happen lmao.

That's all they would need.

That's how trump won, last election.

It can happen again.

Both the democrats and republicans have voter bases that are becoming less religious. America as a whole is becoming less religious. Less voters that vote for right wing Christian politicians = less power. Money doesn’t mean anything in this scenario

when religion dies. pagans will rise. human beings ego force them to bow down to a bigger cause i guess bro. anyway lol i agree with BigBiceps

You need a base to get into office. If the amount of people that would potentially vote for a Christian Conservative continues to stay in free fall, then Christian conservatives won’t have as much power in the future and eventually will collapse in influence.

Money isn’t going to make a politician on the religious right have more appeal to a secularist.

Mere Exposure Effect

Republicans don't actually care about the candidate that is running for the party. As long as that candidate beats out the opponent, that's all that matters.

This is the cause of the Hillary/Trump delilema, where both candidates where atrocities, but people still voted. They would rather have a bad Republican than a good Democrat, and vice versa.

The goal of the modern candidate, is to make the other person look as bad as possible. There is no political science anymore, just stupidity.

It's a popularity contest, not a political race based on facts and legitimacy.

So explain to me right now why a non-Christian is going to choose a Christian Conservative over a secular, but right wing populist/nationalist Conservative? It simply won’t happen. Politics is a popularity contest but above all things, people go for the candidate who’s offering the better deal. This is what made trump beat clinton in key regions (like the rustbelt)

A more secular America means less religious right influence. Both within the Republican Party and in national politics

Where is this prediction of less religious sentiment in politics coming from?

"By 2050, Christianity is expected to remain the majority in the United states (66.4%, down from 78.3% in 2010), and the number of Christians in absolute number is expected to grow from 243 million to 262 million." Source

The number of religious americans is increasing, not decreasing. It was evident with the last election, will be exactly the same.

Trump's entire campaign run was literally backed by evangelical donors, and a majority of his supporters are religious.

Christian journalist predicts more evangelicals will support Trump in 2020

What are you even talking about?

By the way. Trump won because of media coverage antics, and exposure. Not because of any of those bullshit policies, both candidates tried to push into office.

Pew did a survey/study over the course of a year which showed Christians are already down to 65% of the population. Millennials are 40% irreligious. not even half are Christian.

The number of religious Americans is decreasing. Not increasing.

Using current statistics is low IQ. I’m talking about 15-20 years from now. America is still fairly religious right now but That will be no where near the trend once the WWII gen is fully gone and boomers start dying off

We’re already seeing that. Astrology is an example

That's a thirty year projection in my source.

So how does this study, which basically has the same numbers as mine, prove that the one I posted is wrong.

And if you think trends are exponential, and continue forever, you truly do have a decimal iq.

This study has the same numbers as yours? This one says the percentage is 65 now. Your study predicted a percentage of 66 by 2050. Completely different.

Considering the fact that every generation is becoming less and less religious, this trend will become faster if anything. Unless you can somehow prove that millennials and gen Z will start re-affiliating themselves with Christianity again, there’s nothing that proves the trend won’t stay the same or get faster.

JFL at that faulty generalization.

"It'll go down forever!"

Trends are unpredictable and can't really be analyzed, only studied.

Assumption is the death of science. If we just assumed the outcome of everything, we would get no where, and our results would be wrong.

You assuming that its continuation will go down, is like assuming the same social media platform will keep growing. That is not the case.

It’s a prediction based on current evidence. That’s how predictions work. You have still not given a sufficient argument as to why millennials and gen Z will re-affiliate with Christianity and reverse the trend.

There are multiple situation, in which that happens.

War.

Pestilence.

Lost Hope.

Anything could happen, but religious belief is so volatile, it could literally uptrend tomorrow.

By the way, you have the burden of proof, not me. How does this current study predict the future? Don't make absolute statements, if you can't make absolute claims.

All of those things could theoretically happen, sure. But the odds aren’t high In the short term.

This study proves the trends of secularization happening across the west has reached the US and younger generations are becoming progressively more irreligious.

When you consider this study, all the other studies done recently and the proved trend between the increase of wealth and secularization, you naturally will arrive at the conclusion of this trend not stopping.
