I'd estimate my elementary school was 95% White. So there were some minority kids. My 1st grade self could tell there was something different about the minority kids. But I couldn't put my finger on what. I viewed a minority kid as simply just another kid.

It's not natural for little kids to fixate on race. In a perfect world, without racism (from either side), no 1st grader would know what race is. Yeah, they might notice some kids look different, but they'd be too young to understand what the difference means.
