"Pak occupied Kashmir"? Never heard a Pakistani use that term.

But to answer you question, I am pretty sure Gilgit Baltistan went over to Pakistan's side through a bloodless coup. As you may know the ruler of Kashmir (which was a princely state at the time) was a Hindu while the majority of the population were Muslims, he wanted to remain independent but got spooked when the people in Gilgit Baltistan rebelled and called for Indian help (in exchange for acceding to India) as the Pathan tribesmen were threatening to take all of Kashmir.
