Hey Guys,

To learn more about aesthetic preference and how they are formed i decided to dive into the literature. Allot of info about the blackpill is just circle jerking old content with a high chance of confirmation bias. Hopefully we can learn as a community some new thins starting from the beginning. The first study is: https://sci-hub.se/10.1016/s0163-6383(98)90011-x

1640637423688

Previous study shown that babies after 1 hour start to track faces and recognize their mothers face. Infants are born with some kind of facial recognition development. In this study is looked if there is a attractive bias for facial recognition for newborn infants.

In the first experiment 16 infants between the age of 14 hour and 151 hour were used. Photos were shown of both unattractive and attractive faces of Caucasian woman till a total watch time time of 20 second was reached for the attractive face and unattractive face separately. 16 pictures in total were shown. 8 of attractive rated faces and 8 of unattractive.

The stimuli rated as attractive and unattractive accumulated, respectively, 61.5% and 38.5% of the total looking time. A significant difference between the watch time for attractive faces and less attractive. This attractive stimuli preference was even noticed on the youngest infants, 14 hours old male and 21 hour old female.

A second experiment was done to due the photo contrast. 19 infants were chosen aged between 18 hour and 129 hour. 12 pictures of Caucasian woman were shown. 6 were rated as attractive and 6 as unattractive. The same experiment was done. This time the pixels, contrast and amount of hair of each picture was the same.

The percentage of time spent looking at the attractive member of the stimulus pairs averaged 64.3%. a significant difference.

I can do more of these literature studies if you guys want. If more people join we can read though all the literature quickly.
Next one can be continuation studies or more solution based studies, depending what you guys want. There are also followup studies where they compare the watch time to faces for faces for infants that were photoshopped to be the average of multiple faces (basic of attractiveness) or symmetry (conclusion averagenes > symmetry)
