Will lack of proper oxygen intake during developing years in puberty permanently affect IQ/mental development or could you, as an adult, improve your IQ and whatnot through getting proper oxygen intake?
Asking because I am a midwit who has narrow airways and almost definitely lack optimal oxygen intake, especially during my teenage pubertal years, and also now realize that my brain is quite slow (A symptom of lack of proper oxygen intake), and wonder how jaw surgery could help out. Would it help me out to a degree, but my brain would never still be as fully developed as it could have been had I had good airways since birth or will it bring me to my full genetic potential more or less?

I think so but I am no expert.

During the developmental years, proper oxygen intake is indeed crucial for brain development. Inadequate oxygen supply during this period can potentially have negative effects on cognitive abilities and overall mental development. However, it's important to note that the impact of oxygen deprivation on IQ and mental development can vary depending on the severity and duration of the deprivation, as well as individual factors.

If a person experienced oxygen deprivation during puberty and subsequently had cognitive deficits or lower IQ, it's unlikely that simply increasing oxygen intake as an adult would lead to significant improvements in IQ or mental capabilities. The brain's development is a complex process that occurs during specific critical periods, and once those periods have passed, it becomes more challenging to make substantial changes in cognitive functioning.

However, it's important to remember that IQ is not solely determined by oxygen intake or brain development during puberty. Intelligence is a multifaceted trait influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and developmental factors. While it may not be possible to dramatically increase IQ as an adult through oxygen intake alone, there are other ways to enhance cognitive abilities, such as engaging in intellectually stimulating activities, pursuing education and learning opportunities, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

If you have concerns about your cognitive abilities or IQ, it's recommended to consult with a medical professional or psychologist who can provide personalized guidance and support based on your specific situation.

it's hard to describe i just have a slow time processing info
I think you should reach out to a professional for an evaluation, usually this stuff should be done during adolescence, but most parents are brainlets.

What do you have issues with, exactly? For example, speaking, math, reading, etc.

I'm just suggesting a psychologist that aids in providing assessments for adults that think they have a learning disability, but this outlines it:

You’re not alone in feeling this way. I’ve spent more than three decades working with families whose children have learning and thinking differences. Over the years, I’ve found many parents who identified similar issues in themselves when listing symptoms of their child’s challenges. This makes sense, since some conditions run in families.

If you’re thinking of getting an evaluation, some of the professionals qualified to diagnose ADHD in adults include:

  • Psychologists
  • Psychiatrists
  • Neuropsychologists
  • Physicians or APRNs (advanced practice registered nurses) who’ve had extra training in ADHD
Learn more about how and where ADHD is diagnosed after high school.

If you want to be evaluated for learning differences like dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia, you can try:

Learn more about how and where learning differences like dyslexia can be diagnosed after high school.

Talk to your doctor about your concerns. Your doctor can help you find someone who knows a lot about diagnosing and treating adult symptoms of learning and thinking differences.

The psychologist at your child’s school or clinic may also be able to give you a referral. Or you can try community health centers, along with other resources that offer low-cost private evaluations for learning and thinking differences.

The point is that help is available for you. Seeking an evaluation for yourself can be a liberating experience. Some adults say the process helped them to stop viewing their issues as something destined to hold them back. Instead, they started viewing them as challenges to overcome.

It's basically the same thing that you would have had done if you were suspected of a learning disability as a child, provided your parents weren't brainlets. Especially today, I would wager most children are going through life with learning disabilities, and they are just unchecked, which is fucked, tbh. But then your parents need to be on the lookout for it, and of course it has costs, so most kids don't get the help they need.
