i called some local surgeons and even just the consultation is booked a minimum 6 months out. am i supposed to get started with braces first before i am even booked for a consultation with a surgeon?

Consultation first. how is the ortho supposed to know how your teeth should be aligned, without knowing where your jaws are going to be repositioned?

Surgeon gives you an ortho sheet that shows the ortho how to get your teeth in the proper position for the surgery movements he will perform.

That's a long time to wait just for a consultation. Not that it isn't typical for a surgery, but it is time, as you point out, that you could have been wearing braces. Especially considering braces are often on 6 months before and 6 months after the surgery, you could have been halfway done with orthodontic treatment by the time you get to even speak to one of these quacks.

Look around. Is there some other surgeon who could see you more immediately?
