Question Of The Day

¿¿¿Do you believe in god???

Why do you, why do you not?
Are you religious?
Do you believe in any sort of spirituality?
What god do you believe in, if you do believe in one?

depends on how I feel, what kind of dynamic I feel, whether my social battery's depleted or not etc.

for example whenever I feel like I hold power in the dynamic I am usually much more social and witty, when I start feeling insecure (which doesnt happen mid convo, its more just a vibe I already implicitly know by the start) I'll become more withdrawn or just start frauding nonchalance or something like that. I don't know how this psychologically reflects on me but idrc I am who I am.

I've heard people say that everything is fake and they always have to wear a mask around people but to be honest I don't hate it, I think that's just human nature and it's completely ingrained in us, we just happen to observe it happening in real time. Everyone plays their role, you could switch a boss and their employee (as people) and they'd very quickly adapt to the new circumstances and outwardly display that kind of behaviour, it's the same with me, I naturally just play the role my psyche thinks I have or wants to have around certain people. It's ironically why I'm the most NT around foids because I know I'm fairly attractive and I want to leave a good impression.

I think in general I'm introverted but capable of being confident and charismatic, I'm neutral towards interacting with people because it's more akin to a skill or something to me, something I can practice and hone by doing it more, it's just that when interactions drag and my social battery gets depleted I try to exit the situation.

Whenever I'm on org the mask doesn't go away like people say it does with internet anonymity etc., I think it just evolves to something of an alter ego (sounds cool, but everyone has this). I yap and am far more honest on here and sometimes a dickhead but I also have the same social impulses because I know I'm talking to other people. I like to intellectualise and speak my inner thoughts and such and I don't have many chances to express that irl for obvious reasons, so I often express them on here like I'm doing right now with this essay-length post that 3 people will read.

I don't. I find religion absurd.
Example:
Why would a loving god impose arbitrary rules, then punish the people he loves with the worst fate imaginable, then send someone innocent to die for them?
It just doesn't make sense to me.
Religion seems like the biggest cope imagineable.

No. God doesn't exist, can't exist.

It's a man-made construct made by the higher ups so the masses can be kept in control.

I dont because when I was it was stressful and I feel science is more likely and a better explanation. This is just how i feel, I wont make points and argue about it because as an ex Christian I know its possible to explain everything in one way or another. Its just that science makes more sense to me.

A god could exist, but so far I haven't seen an argument that establishes the morality of such a being. If It exists, then it's not wholly good/evil.

Do I think god exists? Yeah probably, but neither you or I can really prove or disprove god's existence, it all boils down to your own personal interpretation in the end. To me personally, there are things that I deem connected indirectly or directly to the creator that can't just be explained by science. Also I don't believe god is necessarily good or evil, thinking that "if god real why bad thing happen" is reddit tier honestly I never liked that way of thinking and it just goes to show how people only view religion trough the christian lenses (I'd argue even atheists view religion mostly trough a christian/abrahamic way) instead of exploring many different interpretations of god.

God could exist.

Assuming he exists or denying his existence is extremely arrogant in both cases, divine nature can’t be investigated with human eyes, it doesn’t even make sense.

Believing in a specific narrative — like religions — is even dumber than the two situations previously mentioned.

Here is my argument, I wrote it myself but used AI to fix spelling and shit:

God is an unfalsiable entity, meaning you can't prove or disprove his existence, but here are the reasons why I don’t believe in God.

First, there is no evidence for God's existence.

Second, if God does exist, then he cannot be both all-loving and all-powerful. The state of the world contradicts that idea. There are wars, children with cancer, natural disasters, and suffering throughout all of history. If God is all-powerful, he would be able to stop these things. If he is all-loving, he would want to stop them. Yet they continue to happen. So either he is not all-loving, not all-powerful, or he does not exist. In any case he would be a God who is not worth believing in or deserving of worship.

Many religious people respond by saying that suffering exists because of free will. But free will itself cannot be proven to exist. Everything we do is influenced by external factors — culture, upbringing, biology, environment, prior knowledge, and circumstances. Every decision we make is shaped by things outside of us. So it’s unclear in what sense we are ever truly “free.” Because of that, the free will argument does not solve the problem.
Even beyond that, the free will defense doesn’t explain cases like children being born with severe illnesses or impairments. Those children didn’t choose anything. They didn’t exercise free will in a way that justifies their suffering. So free will cannot account for all the suffering in the world.

Another explanation religious people give is that suffering exists because of Adam and Eve — that humanity is being punished for their original sin. But that makes no moral sense. If your ancestor from thousands of generations ago disobeyed someone, would it be just to punish every single one of their descendants forever? Of course not. It would be cruel and unjust to curse countless future generations for the actions of distant ancestors.

There’s also the issue of religious diversity. There are thousands of religions and thousands of different gods that people believe in. What makes someone so certain that only their God is the real one? Most people believe in a particular religion simply because they were born into a culture that teaches it. If someone is born into a Christian family, they are likely to believe in Jesus. If someone is born in India, they are more likely to believe in Krishna or other Hindu gods. Belief usually follows geography and upbringing.
If God is an objective truth, then why does belief in God depend so heavily on where someone is born and what they are taught? Objective truth should not change based on culture or location.

When religious belief is shaped by environment, it seems less like universal truth and more like inherited opinion ad goes to show that we humans created the concept of God.

So when you consider the lack of proof, the existence of suffering, the problems with free will, the issue of inherited punishment, and the vast number of conflicting religions, it becomes very difficult for me to believe that an all-loving, all-powerful God exists — or that any one religion has the ultimate truth

God is real because the universe is too complex to run without the interference of a higher being.
Also, the argument that God is unjust with rules can be countered by the belief that God has given all of us life in order for us to be in His worship and follow His commands. Rejecting His message is essentially rejecting the blessing of life, which is why He punishes the people who disobey Him

Matthew 25:46 "And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
why would a god make someone who will experience life temporarily and direct them towards something that lasts forever, why not just put them to rest.
god or even jesus to me are nothing but a coping mechanism set by humans because we can't stand unanswered questions "why are we even on earth in the first place?" religion is that answer and the whole fairy tale ending of "oh happy and wonderous afterlife if i follow rules!! but if people break those rules and choose to do what they want to do they get to suffer eternally!" is so fucking retarded

Yeah I 100% believe in God. It’s not just bc I was raised in the Church but bc for us God isn’t just some idea in a book He’s a person u actually encounter. The biggest reason is what we call Revelation. Its the vibe that God isn't hiding. He lit showed up in person as Jesus. And here the thing, our faith doesn't start with proofs but with God disclosing Himself to us. Just how like St John said it “No one has ever seen God the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known” in John 1:18.
Plus when I look at how insane and beautiful the world is I can't see it as just a random accident. Like St. Basil the Great said, the whole universe is basically a palace built for us to find Him in. And yeah at the end of the day, it abt a relationship. I believe bc I feel His peace in the Liturgy and bc Ik I was made in His image (Genesis 1:27) to find my real self in Him. It’s obv not always easy but like St Paul told Timothy even as a teen u can be an example to the believers and experience that spiritual youthfulnes that comes from the Holy Spirit.

No there’s simply no good evidence besides fine tuning which is blown out of proportion by theists, the god of the gaps among other things like how poorly tuned the universe is don’t point to an intelligent benevolent creator. We see this in the progression of human religion as older religions used god to explain anything including natural phenomena such as rain, however as science progressed and filled in our gaps of knowledge god became more creationist, where he created the world but dosent really actively interfere in it. God is outside of scientific observation so u can’t prove nor disprove god, metaphysics is bs btw :lul:. Simply no good reason to believe in him

Lol revelation is a circular argument with no basis in reality, if you’re argument for Christianity is revelation u are also giving Islam the same credibility. Also the evidence for Jesus existence is sparse at best and certainly no evidence he was god with plenty of evidence such as biblical inconsistencies. The world being “beautiful” dosent mean god automatically would’ve done it true god of the gaps fallacy if the universe was a palace to find him in there wouldn’t be a million different religions older than Christianity all claiming they’re right and u wouldn’t need missionaries to spread the gospel. :lul:

Yes I do believe in God, though I think the bible was altered. I disagree with the concept of religion and ‘hell’ as it primarily acts as a social construct and an omnipotent force to fear to establish good social structure/standards. It dosent make sense to me, through all that I’ve read regarding physics and human psychology that there isn’t an inherent force driving us, though I think that that force isn’t inherently good or evil. Human consciousness is NOT understood, no matter the science there are so many things we don’t understand and never will. There has to be some sort of intervention, and God to me is a source of stability and hope.

Bowden said humans have an innate need to believe.
Whether that is religious, political or other.
Well, we in the west have been completely christemwashed.

Based.
>Why do you, why do you not?
Because God exists
How did you find out?
metaphysics is bs btw
Duh... tbh, romanticizing things and believing probably makes you happier, but we are too faustian 🗿🗿
Well, i wouldn't really count this as an argument against god's existence as @HeavyMetalcel said...
But free will itself cannot be proven to exist.
Free will could exist if god exists...
Otherwise it seems impossible to me.
When religious belief is shaped by environment, it seems less like universal truth and more like inherited opinion ad goes to show that we humans created the concept of God.
If god existed, religion should be innate and utterly intuitive.

Kasperhauser (who was locked under a staircase for years with 0 human interaction since early childhood) would need to know all about god.

He doesn't, indicating there is no god...

Ahh but historically and from a logical perspective this dosent hold up. From a literal and figurative standpoint these are horrible conditions to discover things about the world. God is confounded upon the principle of curiosity and inherent questioning about life and the universe, which is impossible without existing in the world and in nature. If he was let loose in a forest, (as goatis pilled as it sounds) with no society, no preconceived notions of anything, either him, or one of his predecessors would have subsequently asked the question of God, and there is only one answer my friend. If the earth started over, we would still have a God. It’s inevitable upon the journey of human self understanding and questioning, which happens in every person, no matter how minute. Inherently he was ‘confined’ both physically and metaphysically and it makes sense that nothing could/would ever come from that. But perhaps even he, if left long enough would have begun to worship something in that closet

Question Of The Day

¿¿¿Do you believe in god???
-
Why do you, why do you not?
Are you religious?
Do you believe in any sort of spirituality?
What god do you believe in, if you do believe in one?

Me personally I believe that there is one God and he is the almighty creator of us beings and the universe. So many people follow religions around the world for centuries, believing in one God, or thousands of Gods or no God at all. I choose to believe in one God because choosing to believe in no God or thousands of Gods is illogical to me and less beneficial to me, it is like a Pascal's Wager, if I choose to believe in a God what is there to lose? In the "after-life" if it exists at least I spent my life being pious and believing in a God, whereas if I chose to not believe in any God, there would be no chance for me in the "after-life" except a straight path to hell. I am not trying to prove to anyone here that an God exists I am simply stating my thoughts, often times I question the very fundamentals of whether God exists.

Such questions though appear within my mind:
If God created everything, who created God?
- But then such answers to this question come to my mind as well,
If I am driving a car then who is driving me? And If a painter painted a piece of art, who painted the painter? So hence questions like these begin to seem illogical to me as always that the first premise of these types of argument is "Whatever begins to exist has a cause." :feelshmm:
If God is just then why does he punish humans with eternal hell?
- Then if governments are just then why do they send criminals to life in prison or give ridiculous sentences like 300 years in jail (Clearly beyond any normal human life span)?
God says everyone has to worship him for all eternity. What kind of self-centered egomaniac demands that?
- Why do parents demand that children don't stick forks into sockets. What kind of egomaniac demands such control of their own kids like that?

Given that I am on the internet 24/7 :lul:, I can easily find the answers to these online many times or I can answer with ease using simple logic, and it helps affirm my faith in a God. Like you said, "Why would a loving god impose arbitrary rules, then punish the people he loves with the worst fate imaginable, then send someone innocent to die for them?", I have always revolved around this question and have yet to find any sufficient answer for this, some say God is testing them and has something better for them in after-life but I say that a person has the ability to do anything, I find the law of physics, "For every action there is an equal & opposite reaction". So a person essentially digs their own hole and blames someone for it but this is not an good answer in all scenarios yet my faith in one God remains unchallenged by this one question. You will obviously encounter challenges in life and it's best to never complain as it will never get you nowhere, the challenge is meant to change you not destroy you so you must put in the effort just like how we all were born ugly but discovering looksmaxxing and putting the effort in will get us eventually to Chad, nothing is ever impossible either.

I wouldn't really say I am very religious but nor very irreligious, I tend to try my best to stick to the moderate & balanced side of my religion. You can clearly see by looking at my avi I do not clearly seem to look religious at all but I try to find the right amount of fulfilling my own desires without really attempting to end up in hell. I do believe God is all merciful and he shall forgive me for my wrongdoings but he is indeed not stupid to forgive me blindly and will definitely take account for what I do in this life in some way and it will come back to me.

I believe in the Abrahamic God, the same God that Jews, Christians & Muslims all worship. In Judaism, they call this God, "Elohim" an term that basically means creator or judge. In Christianity they will call this God, "Father", this is familiar to everyone as I believe most people come from an Christian background and in Islam they call this God, "Allah", an term similar to Elohim and means God. But in terms of religion, I am an Sunni Muslim and I follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) and Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), as well as many other Prophets that came in history. There are so many reasons why I choose to believe in Sunni Islam as it has the most preserved scripture in all of the Abrahamic religions and has such an beautiful meaning behind its Arabic verses, a descendent language in which the Bible was revealed in Aramaic, the father language of Arabic. Christianity has some elements of truth blended with varying pagan religions from native Europeans, such as the idea of trinity which I find absurd. Judaism has the concept of "goyim" and believing themselves to be the chosen race altogether treating all other non Jews as humans which is definitely not something a race of God would do.

I don't. I find religion absurd.

I can relate somewhat to your answer as I did once used to find religion absurd but religion isn't really meant to restrict you, it just provides a way of life to live. Everyone is an sinner and sin privately or publicly, the difference is which sins you choose to do and which sins you do not choose to do. Religion provides a sense of community I have no idea if you ever seen it through that perspective but I often find the best people of life from churches, mosques but I have yet to meet any Jew though, without religion I genuinely do not know where I would get that same feeling of belonging and community.

I believe there is a creator of the universe as it is far too complex to be created by chance.

Any religion makes no sense though; why would us humans, who did not choose to be born, have to follow rules to go to a place after we die, that we have never seen, and is not fully promised.

It makes no sense so the belied of any religion is not logical.

I believed in god once but soon realized that it was just a self coping mechanism to feel better and it’s not even bad. The feeling that you give someone you’re worries before you go to sleep, pray that your goals happen is a great feeling and helps our mental health. But the Christian god doesn’t exist and if he would, he wouldn’t be better then an evil person. The concept of giving humans free will and that’s why children are dying is just absurd. If god is all powerful why isn’t he able to do something illogical ? And tbh I never felt god and people who felt him were probably forcing themselves so much that they start to think everything weird they see is connected to god.

for example whenever I feel like I hold power in the dynamic I am usually much more social and witty, when I start feeling insecure (which doesnt happen mid convo, its more just a vibe I already implicitly know by the start) I'll become more withdrawn or just start frauding nonchalance or something like that.

Tomorrows QOTD will (hopefully) be posted by the honorable @foidletslayer (if he is able to...)

The tagged people who don't reply or interact in some way won't get tagged next time, cuz there is other people i could tag that might.

Someone who replies to this thread or someone from the big list of people i fw or people who interacted with the october qotds will replace you...

I used to believe in God but growing up it seemed more and more like a cope to me it's a nice feeling to know someone's out there tho looking after you and listening to you if you're in a bad situation calling out on him feels comforting but in reality I don't think there's anyone there

I feel like God doesn't exist or he has abandoned us if he truly cared about us he wouldn't or shouldn't let all the things happening right now lot of people say you shouldn't blame him for the tragedies because it's caused by humans but he's the almighty and powerful and everything done is God's will why would a God want all these things to happening kid's dying and innocent people dying

one of the kid's from the Epstein files were getting raped and tortured to death was screaming out god's name to save him you let a kid that didn't even get a chance at life die brutally but let these vile monster's roam around freely it's unfair

I don't know if there's a God out there sometimes the thought of a God out there kinda pisses me off to

Very nice thread bro classic Evilsatanarserapist W

Why do you, why do you not?
Logical reasoning for Christ’s existence.

For example, just look around us. It’s absurd for me to think that some rocks collided and over years the Earth just formed randomly. Cookies in my oven don’t just evolve. For my cookies to spawn in my oven, there needs to be a creator.

From our perspective, we also need a creator. We were born to worship. That’s why people cling to certain ideologies and things like that. It’s because we all yearn for a creator.

Are you religious?
I think it's clear but yes I am a follower of Christ

Do you believe in any sort of spirituality?
Yes of course

Lore topic,

More specifically, I am a Pentecostal Protestant.

If you’re unaware about Christian denominations, as Pentecostals, we believe strongly in the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Now, this isn’t necessarily a direct biblical quote, but it’s something often said in church, that it was after Jesus was baptised that He began performing miracles.

We also place a major emphasis on spiritual gifts, especially speaking in tongues and similar manifestations of the Spirit.

What god do you believe in, if you do believe in one?
Jesus Christ

God is love because the Bible says it. I know that might not seem like a sufficient answer on its own, but think about it this way.

If you watch any sport, you would be annoyed if someone constantly broke the rules. Imagine if tomorrow your favourite sports league announced that all rules were completely gone and anything was allowed. It would turn into chaos. As a regular viewer, you would probably find it frustrating because without structure, the game stops making sense.

The same applies to society. If tomorrow there were no laws and it became something like The Purge, some people might initially see that as freedom. In reality, it would spiral out of control very quickly.

From a Christian perspective, God sets rules not because He is a cosmic buzzkill, but because He loves us. Boundaries are there to prevent us getting hurt.

Regarding sacrifice, in the Old Testament system, the consequence of sin required life. Typically, an animal would be sacrificed as a substitute. The idea is that sin carries a cost. Christians believe that because Jesus was sinless, His sacrifice fulfilled that requirement once and for all. His death on the cross replaced the need for continual sacrifices, and accepting Him is understood as receiving salvation.
