Before Neck Workout
Neck workout
Try to find time to perform
- (x10) Tongue slides: Place the tip of your tongue against the back of your top front teeth. Slowly slide your tongue backward with the tip moving along the roof of your mouth
- (x3 (each side)) Tongue stretch: Stick out your tongue as far as you can. Try to touch your chin with your tongue while looking at the ceiling, hold for 10 - 15 seconds and increase the duration gradually, Do the same but force your tounge to your nose, hold for 10-15 seconds
- (x3-5 breaths x3) Spoon holds: Stick out tongue and hold against spoon for a duration of 10-15 seconds
- (x7) Effortful swallow: The effortful swallow involves swallowing with maximal effort, squeezing all muscles involved in the swallow as tightly as possible
- (x7) Mendelsohn Maneuver: The Mendelsohn maneuver involves holding the larynx at its highest point during a swallow for a few seconds before releasing
- (x7) Toungue clench: Hold your tongue gently in between your lower and upper front teeth (do not bite too hard on your tongue to avoid causing injury) and whilst holding your tongue between your teeth perform swallows

- (x3 (each side)) Cheek hooks: Press the buccinator muscle outwards while contracting your cheek muscle, hold for 3-5 breaths

Before Neck Workout
- (x5 breaths) x3 Neck extension: Tilt your head upwards, looking up towards the ceiling, keep the chin tilted up as far as you can, without pain
- (x5 breaths) x3 Neck rotations: Sit up tall in a chair facing forward and turn your head to the right as far as you can, hold, repeat with left side
- (x5 breaths) x3 Neck flexion: Sit up tall in a chair, face forward and slowly tilt your head to the right, bringing right ear to right shoulder, look forward and hold, repeat with left side
- (x5 breaths) x3 Jaw open: Sit up tall in a chair, face forward and gently open your mouth as wide as you can, without pain and hold
- (x2-3 breaths) x3 Chin Tuck Against Resistance: involves tucking the chin to the chest against resistance, often using a rubber ball, towel, or similar prop

- (x15 x3) weighted neck curls
Try to find time to perform
- (x3 min) x2-3 Vowel Practice: Practice saying each vowel out loud (say a, e, i, o, u) practicing this sequence for three minutes at a time, a few times a day
- (x15 x1) x1 Tongue clicks: Click tongue against tip of pallete
