Responding with “you too”

My coworker just responded with “y-you too” when I greeted him with “welcome back” after his vacation. I never thought this could happen in real life, but when it did it was cringe and awkward silence.

He probably hates the job so he got thrown off by "welcome back". He thought "wdym welcome back, my life is literal hell here".
