17 y/o rn, got invisalign for crooked teeth around 11 or 12. It fixed the teeth, and I generally looked better and my face seemed decently developed with slight recessions. While wearing retainers after treatment, I discovered mewing and good orthotropic habits and it improved my posture and developed my mandible greatly.
Only thing is I'm guessing due to wearing the retainer of a 12 year old kid from 12-16, my mandible developed properly while my palate remained the same size and now my maxilla is noticeably recessed causing slight underbite when fully relaxed.
I stopped wearing the retainers now, and have been hard mewing, chewing rough foods often and some lateral thumbpulling (Jordan Wood routine) and in 3 weeks have documented around 3 degree increase in IBA angle (intertragic notch of ear, brow ridge, ala of nose).
Theory is that using traditional orthodontic methods like braces or invisalign to fix crooked teeth followed by no retainers and good orthotropic habits throughout developing years would lead to better and more natural facial development.
Am I onto something?
