Not only that, but invading requires creating supply chains which can easily be targeted using long range weaponry. They key to invading in modern warfare is to offensively defend by creating control points within a nation and then defending from there. Another strategy is target trade and lay siege to a country and starve them out by destroying inner supply chains and blocking outside aid.

Russia has neither of these options which is why they are struggling. The only way to win this type of war is unironically with a continual zerg rush.
