In 2016, Barcelona signed a young french defender from Lyon. He was only 22 years old but already played like veteran with the calmness and toughness of a seasoned defender.

The perfect pairing to Gerard pique
1000112581

Together he helped Barcelona won the Copa Del Rey

1000112582

He was doing great and fans already started calling him the future star of the club but in 2018 right before the world cup he suffered from a knee injury. Smart thing would be surgery and rest but France needed him

So he played through the pain.He also scored the only goal in semi final against Belgium that sent France to the finals

And later lifted the world cup with France to become a champion

1000112583

But the problem is his knee problems never went away and he was still having problems. He started in only 14 games in the season and only 12 after that.

He couldn't keep up and went from sacking stars to struggling to maintain fitness in training. Doctors in Barcelona told him to get surgery but he truly believed that he can do a comeback so he did rehab and rehab to no avail and was later ruled out for another seasons and leaned out to lecce Italy

In lecce he finally did find some form and showed moments of brilliance of what kind of a player he used to be and fans started thinking the comeback was real but the spark was again short lived and his body just couldn't keep up and we went to France again with Lille

The same injury came back to haunt him again and He only starred in a handful of matches before being ruled out for an entire season. He tried to comeback for months but his body was done and after years of setbacks, false comebacks he finally made a heart breaking announcement recently that he was retiring from professional football. The same man that sent France to the final of 2018 world Cup was gone only at the age of 31. French national football association paid tribute to Umititi following his retirement

He could have been star but the game of luck wasn't with him

If prime umtiti was fit and in the line up for Barca in 2019, they really could’ve won the UCL. They had a bunch of bums pairing with Pique and he got all the blame.

I remember the semi final. Belgium and France were genuinely equal to each other. The winner of that game would’ve easily won the World Cup in the final beating Croatia.

I wanted Belgium to win though.

He made the difference.

Before Anfield, 17/18 was insane before roma - one game really turns everything to shit. He had to work with at best mediocre guys like lenglet, roberto, stegen, and alba who shit the bed when it mattered most.

I don’t know when Barca will win the UCL again. They aren’t consistent enough and their defence struggles against top teams like PSG

Under flick it's hard tbh, even though flick has a relatively solid ucl record his system is draining and makes it nearly impossible to compete at all fronts at full-power and even then that they have little reinforements because of a limited budget.

I think they'll try and bring in fabregas and give lamine a more central role in the near future

Also Barca’s squad depth isn’t as good as other top teams. That’s another issue especially with flick’s system

Fabregas doesn’t have much experience unlike flick. Not sure if he would be capable.

He's done solid enough so far, should have beat napoli away today and been 3rd in serie a but morata is the worst pen taker fucking ever.

Pep didn't have much experience before his debut sextuple season ever besides just academy football even less than fabregas tbh.

If anything they'll bring in him or that guy belleti
guy in the youth squad, I don't think enrique or arteta will budge despite rumors especially with strained resources and already firmly stacked squads.
