I'm getting offered a free septoplasty (not going to be cosmetic, probably wont change my noses appearance) due to the fact that I have breathing issues, and a deviated septum. I wanted to hear the opinion of the people on this forum on septoplastys,

Has anyone here had one? How much better is there breathing? I don't get why everyone who has a deviated septum doesn't get one if they qualify.

a septoplasty won’t ruin your nose shape. look up a 3d example of the procedure

thats exactly what im scared of, ive also heard some peoples breathing have even gotten worse

only my septo is covered by insurance, i asked if a septorhinoplasty would be covered, and they said no. i have a dorsal hump too so it really woulda helped.

mines isnt septo rhino, its just septo

It’s a medical surgery as you know; they won’t mess it up. The people who have it go wrong are awfully extreme cases and are probably some backyard doctors. It’s a very easy procedure for a surgeon.

It’s a shame you can’t cough up for a rhino with it.

yeah unfortunately. I'm in ontario and OHIP only covers non-cosmetic. I tried to negotiate for a septorhinoplasty, however they insisted I could not.

Sure. It’s medical and free. Why not? You’ll have to pay for rhino anyway, they just might make it a bit more expensive considering it’s now a separate surgery rather than a two-in-one surgery.

i don't think ill do rhino tbh. i don't hate my nose, thats why I'm worried this septoplasty will affect my nose shape or nose in a negative way in some manner.

yeah but the surgery in itself does not change your appearance, later on the breathing does though.

typically ENTs will include rhino with the septoplasty, but ymmv

It won’t. It’s medical and the procedure doesn’t tamper with the aesthetics of it.
