Honestly, consult a psychiatrist and talk about your symptoms. Prescribed psychostimulant medications could be lifechanging, and they could be the tweak you need to start acting with more clarity and direction.

Otherwise, I don't know. I depends on your situation. If you're stuck in a rut; big change is needed. I know the feeling of not even being able to generate "motivaiton" so you stay stuck. But time ticks on, and it keeps work if you take no action to change. Stop being placated by distractions.

I've taken online ones but I've no interest in taking an "official test", if they even exist.

Sometimes the highest IQ one can do is just making decisions that make them more happy and fulfilled.

I am pretty good at data architecture, dependencies in large multibillion AUM firms, nuance/edge cases, programming, maths, finance, logic, ROI, investing strategies etc. Such things are more important to me than a result on an IQ test. Probably strong correlation, but not perfect.

In your experience is pattern recognition in trading more of a trained intuition or data-driven outcome?

Pattern recognition is probably just intuition - like gut feeling. But I would never rely on "pattern recognition" for positive capital growth outcomes in trading.

Real "personal trading" is won through selective risk and taking advantage of large price displacements in markets (i.e., trendfollowing). You need systems to capitalise on that. Systematic and automated strategies, turtle-esque rules, risk management, position sizing and bankroll management, zero bias, and a convex payoff system to squeeze PnL out of freakish market trends.

On the other side you have the stuff you can't do at home, liquidity provision via market making, latency arbitrage, speed via low level engineering and non-informational alpha (i.e., infrastructure stack alpha, market access, deals with silicon providers, even finding new strategies that are completely unheard of). All of which can be scaled.

For example, there were two guys working in a trading firm in New York who realised circa 2021-22 that volume in Indian options was more than 1000x the volume in the spot contracts. So they exploited a perfectly legal system where they'd buy calls on the NIFTY50 index in the morning, then use extreme amounts of capital (billions) to drive up the price of the underlying index by midday (by purchasing underlying stocks), then their calls would print and make them bank, then they'd sell the underlying stocks (at a loss, but the loss was less than the money made from the 0dte calls expiring), and the index would ramp down a few basis points again. They did this every day for 2 years, making $80-90million daily, just through this strategy.

Will ignore everything except the ChatGPT part. I'm one of the most OG users on the site. (old account registered and active since Jan 2019). I lurked in the glory days of Aug-Dec 2018. I don't give a shit about any newcel zoomers. I don't care if I get hate for using ChatGPT. I'm not trying to build a reputation. Others project that onto me because it's likely what they want. It's up to you. Living with parents gives you the option to invest in education, upskilling, and eventually making a risk that might define your future.

It's more the fact you need to be upskilling. Working where you don't sharpen your edge makes it so that "competence at your job" becomes captivity. You want optionality to move to where you feel like everything works in sync. Progression, compensation, trajectory.
