I think it’s because Americans put greater emphasis on what is masculine and not, so if you care about how you look or wear tight clothes you could be seen as gay. In Europe this is not the case as people dress decently, but when I look at pics from America everyone dresses poorly and baggy. It works in Europe because it’s more popular, and being "fashionable" is more common
