Shocking moment two robbers steal 55-year-old man's $35,000 Cartier in Manhattan's swanky Chelsea neighborhood

Why do they always edit out the critical few seconds lead in to the action on such videos? It would be helpful to know how long he had been talking to those 3 people, and if he approached them or vis versa.

I am completely baffled why anyone would need or wear a $35,000 watch. I paid $50 for my watch, it keeps decent time, and from 6+' away it looks just as nice as any $35,000 watch.

People will think you're poor if you wear a $50 watch...

Just be glad there are still these marks to make money off of as they in turn loot the country

Status maxing watches is cringe, though we can reconceive of it as a hobby

Only if the price tag is still attached. Only 10% of men even wear watches in 2022. Probably 1 person in 200 can ID my cheap $50 watch as a cheap $50 watch.

Obviously that is the intent. But who the fuck looks closely at your watch? Have you ever looked at someone's watch and thought, wow that is an expensive watch, I am impressed, no you haven't, if you ever saw someone with a very expensive watch you would not even notice, and if you did notice you would label them a try hard.

no that is not at all what people in that strata think. maybe this is why there is a disconnect between your level of wealth and your lifestyle

when people with money see someone rocking a richard mille or audemars piguet, they recognize a fellow high net worth individual, and they appreciate his taste in watches, and are more likely to do business with him or accept him in their circle. many people find it very normal to wear $200k or $500k watch, especially at social events. the very least that someone can wear is a rolex. it's not expensive and doesn't impress anyone, but he can claim it's simply his favorite watch and people will let it slide

as far as wearing a no-name or knock off, i can assure you that people with money do notice, and will treat you accordingly. you may not care, but don't think you're fooling anyone. they will think you're either too cheap to buy a real watch or simply aren't well versed in the art of living

interestingly this goes back to how i was puzzled that you live a middle-class lifestyle and buy middle-class houses/cars despite being in a much different income bracket. i guess it's just what you're comfortable with. there is nothing wrong with it, but you're really not living the rich lifestyle you ought to be living, right now you're living like a middle-class person who's managing a large bank account that will escheat to the government, and the government thanks you for that
