Skincare is easy – don’t make it harder than it needs to be.
You need 4 different items:
1. Cleanser – This cleans your face from oils and dirt.
2. Actives – Retinol (tret, adapalene), salicylic acid, or Accutane.
I’d recommend retinol or SA if your face is decent.
If you have a lot of acne, go to stronger alternatives like tret or adapalene.
If your acne is really severe, use Accutane. This is an oral pill that takes months to fully work. It reduces sebum production. Basically, it strips your face of oils and prevents your body from making acne. It will dry out your skin though.
3. Moisturizer – What moisturizer you use depends on how dry your skin naturally is and how dry it becomes because of your actives. To put it simply: the more aggressive the active, the more moisture your face needs.
“I use no actives, do I still need it?” Yes! Your face will create more sebum to keep it moist on its own → more acne.
4. SPF – The sun is brutal. Protect yourself. AT LEAST SPF 30 (broad spectrum).
“Won’t direct sunlight help my acne?”
FUCK NO. It will make it ten times worse → drying = more oil production = more acne.
It will make acne scars 100x worse and give you a lot of wrinkles. The sun will burn them in deeper, making scars way darker. Think of it like this: if you burn your hand, you’ll get a dark scar. If you already have an acne scar and keep putting it in the sun (with or without SPF), it’ll stay longer and get darker.
