I'm in my final year of my degree and have around 6 months of free time and I was thinking of doing a minor in some subject. I already have multiple job offers so it's not like I need it but what will I do staring at the ceiling everyday. Might aswell get an honors degree for the sake of framing it on a wall in my room.

I was thinking of taking up physics because I've always enjoyed classical physics and find it interesting but I've also noticed that many of my classmates are going for minors like quantum computing, human-computer interaction, and finance, which seem more "practicalโ€ or trendy. Part of me feels like I should pick something that aligns with my long term interests or adds to my knowledge base, while another part of me just wants to study something I enjoy since this won't matter anyway . What would you
Think?

Is applied physics an option for ur minor? Try breaking into fields like quant trading (at renaissance or citadel or some shi) or AI(rlly big rn , ai devs r getting paid a fuck ton).

I don't know much about quant but HFT firms do come to my uni to pick up guys and then make them do a 6-7 months course and hire them as quant traders. AI devs yeah but you typically need a master's degree and research experience. I'm mainly a SDE and Devops engineer.

Well you already have job offers so picking a minor thatโ€™s beneficial to your degree isnโ€™t as important. Id say get the minor in something you like.

Devops and SDE is still pretty solid if u get hired in big tech(Amazon , FAANG or TikTok or whatever) and the career progression is solid if u wanna stick around and even if u wanna switch ur job after like 3 years the experience and exposure is good. HFT is good but kinda stressful , like Jane street and similar firms pay a lot but youโ€™re gonna be working 80-100 hr weeks.

if u wanna get into tech consulting , thatโ€™s good asw but ur gonna need an MBA but still stressful career but you'll have plenty of options in tech consulting. If u wanna do a masters , AI would be the best pick.

I know HFTs are very hard to get into and frankly I don't enjoy quant jobs a lot. It's super stressful and very boring. I personally enjoy dev work the most because it's more intellectually stimulating and is something I actually trained for.

Get a job in big tech or break into AI. That'd be good for ur interests + money/career.
