such a boring subject imo

i spend my time in uni in the gym and going out

i don’t do uni work at all, and have no motivation to start going so.

why am i even in the course and i can do both of those (gym and go out) and actually earn some money without being here.

first semester done

If it doesn't take much of your time or stress you out, don't drop out.

I'm in the same situation as you doing computer science

I dont go to lectures or do the work and I am 100% going to fail the course ive already failed a module i only get by through cheating.

Just like you i spend 90% of my time going out and in the gym. I would drop out if it meant i could continue living in student accomodation moving back in with parents would legit be fucking torture jfl.

I'll stick with it till the end of the year and re apply to an easier course in a big city

i literally went to 3 lectures at the very start and didn’t go again. i also don’t want to end up living with parents again. i will try stick it out for as long as possible, but idk if id re apply, i feel like id be putting myself in the same situation all over again.

It essentially is but engineering and CS degrees are to intensive i literally cannot steer my attention to anything else.

I'd rather do a comfy liberal arts degree where i can just chatgpt my way into a degree.

Also cheaper rent would be nice so I'd have more expendable cash

If you have good grades you can go into anything you want
think is, my parents realise that i fucking hate this course, and say drop out if you really don’t wanna do it since i look un motivated as shit to do anything related to do it.

just makes it seem like your kinda a disappointment tho, which doesn’t feel good, although i will be dropping out regardless since there’s no way i pass the first year with how little work i’ve done, and even if i did, i wouldnt make all 3 years, no way lock in for that.

its like you’ve given up, not smart enough or something.

even tho they say drop out and get a job, they also say shit like “ohh so u just wanna work a 9 to 5 as a plumber of something” in like a condescending tone

in the same position as you realised that you will go through living hell doing this degree just to end up making same salary as a teacher lmfao, muh just grind 10 more years to get a senior engineers salary

the jobs are undervalued and most require you to move overseas because the west doesn't do much of it's own manufacturing, and the jobs themselves most of the time you will be sitting behind a screen doing cad work like a monkey for your boss who doesn't even have an engineering degree

esp if your just making your way through it and not excelling in the subject. you’ll be earning no more than a normal 9 to 5 where u don’t need a degree and esp not mech eng.

just don’t want to end up back in parents house.i think i’ll stick it out till the end of the year in uni accommodation, then drop out and get a job in the uni location so i can still live with the boys since we all have our house set for next year

If he drops out now he’ll still have to pay the uni tuition so he might as well use them for free accommodation.

He should just work full time and make it seem like he’s still attending lectures and doing work

Even if you finish it you’ll end up like me working for £40k with a masters degree. It’s a cucked subject. I honestly think trades are the way to go now, there is a huge shortage and it will eventually lead to self employment.

Tbh engineering is not worth the revenue/effort ratio , i could have worked as a store employee after high school and i would probably have more money. But if you can graduate you'll probably IQ mog 99% of the population , i'd say it's worth if you can start some related successful business but wageslave is still a wageslave engineer or not.

You won’t gain any qualification by doing that and it doesn’t sound like you’re interested in the subject, so rather a waste of time.

Backup plans are stupid you go all into something thats just risky enough so that it has a good risk to reward ratio but not risky to the point where you fail your life is over

I wish i understood this earlier

Trades also have a very slow salary progression only truly worth it once ur done with gcse

GCSE -- Trade Apprenticeship -- Work Trades Fulltime -- Save up money and work for yourself

If you've done a levels you're better off working in a comfy office with good benefits High salary for monkey level work or completely remote job

I’m unaware of any path to such an office job these days. Engineering was meant to be, but that went down the toilet fast. Comp sci is likewise not great in the UK. Maybe finance?

The slow salary progression of trades still beats losing 4-5 years of your life to studies while earning nothing and accumulating a massive debt (that means you will pay extra 9% tax forever)

Should have chosen a better subject. I study medicine, the medical world is full of stacies and I got 70% female students here. Being a doctor is also fucking nice. Bad luck bro

I love mechanical engineering, i really concidered it at some point. I have been geeking out a lot on all kinds of mechanical machines on youtube. Did you have an interest initially that faded?

not really. it was the typical mistake of doing something based on if your good in it or not, not wether you enjoyed doing it.
i did a level maths physics and computer science.
disliked the computer science the most, did well in physics and maths but didn’t really enjoy any of the 3.

so i took a subject that would use primary math and physics (even though i don’t enjoy). and there also ended up being programming in the course (comp sci) which i hate. so just bad choice from me in general.

Tell me more, maybe I will switch to finance
I go to Rotman Bcom at UofT and have a pretty good gpa and head some clubs, a buddy of mine had some good connects at Goldman Sachs in Toronto and I got handed the position of an entry level analyst, if I am a good boy I could get some bonuses too.

No point in studying engineering, medicine/ dentistry pays double with same uni suffering, other majors (yes including business) gives the engineering salary with 1/3 of its work in uni.

You were born into the working class. Any path you choose, aside from NEETdom, will be filled with such drudgery. To cope with drudgery, you need to acquire purpose. Mechanical engineering is honourable drudgery - you are providing improvement to the world. You may access a higher class of self worth and living with it. As a lower working class man, a chef or a plumber, you will never have any opportunity for ascension. You will be stuck as one of the dregs forever.

Your wayward youthful interests are conflicting with your long term strategy. Forget about the gym and going out. Form a daily routine focused on your degree. Gym and socialising must always be secondary. There's a reason all older people give you this same advice, because they know your youth will fade fast and you'll be left with nothing except a meaningless service job and no sense of purpose in life. Just talking with mechanical engineering normies vs service and trade normies should demonstrate to you the enormous gulf of life quality difference being experienced by these two groups. You can even just look at them. The lower class are so depressed they can't even maintain basic physical composure.

In the uk mechanical engineers ARE the lower class. Trades make more and services don’t make a lot less. If it was so great I’d not be stuck living with my parents at 31 while full time employed.
