I have been thinking about getting into cybersecurity for a while now. While I do enjoy devops and writing code I'd like to expand my skillset to something that is more relaxed and easier. Cybersec also has less competition and is in demand right now. My conversation with @Wombles made me realize despite not specializing in this field. Im already familiar with a lot of concepts related to OWSAP. Should I get a CompTIA+ Security certification to get started and then branch out into cloud security?

Cybersec is not entry level, you can only get a job through nepotism or location.

Usually people start lower, If you are good it pays well

Get into cybersecurity its only going to be more needed with all the retards who are oblivious to opsecs. Plus it's a good hobby and a useful skill to have in ur cv. Get the certificate bhai.

Wouldnt doing an internship in cybersec help with that?

Yeah it can, do you have any job experience in tech? If so that should be enough to get you entry level somewhere but you might have to move.

Get networks+ and security+. Networks is a little tough security is easy.

If you are hungry and are able to know your stuff cybersec is a good field, just most going into cybersec are idiots. I am a cyber sec intern rn.

prob, itโ€™s def more in demand now.

Iโ€™ll finally be graduating in the next 6 months, Iโ€™ve considered cyber but am also thinking about exiting tech as a whole. Iโ€™m done with the whole rat race

I do. I have done a couple of internships on full stack and cloud deployment but nothing related to cybersec. I was leaning towards cloud security than a pen tester since I already have experience with cloud architectures. It would compliment my work ex and other certificates

what country do you live in ?

with 701+, you can easily pass the exam within a month if you are even slightly decent with computers and have at least saharan fisherman tier IQ. in the US its extremely useful for government jobs. otherwise the pay is not really so great compared to other tech fields, most cybersecurity people still need experience and if you have experience the cert isnt really necessary. it is good for getting those easy borderline tech support jobs (these jobs are really low paying though)

I know cybersecurity "consultants" in their 50s who do maybe 2 hours of work a week and then just go play golf all day while making 300k because companies are basically having them on retainer in case some junior dev fucks something up. It's probably the most AI proof Computer related subfield.

Along with that. I also wanted to an AWS Certified Security.

This is exactly why I want to get into cybersec. Even ive seen ITcels in senior cybersec roles chilling all day and immune to layoffs. They can't be fired because they are basically irreplaceable

okay but in nearly every other engineering related field a person with an equivalent level of experience and network still has to actually manage people and get them to constantly ship stuff. It spikes your cortisol so hard its not even funny and those people are always coping with alc, politics, or "vacations" to pattaya. The only person I know who is still in shape, can afford to send all of his kids to private school, and still has a semi fuckable wife is doing cybersec.

I got this like 6 years ago. This one is way harder than security+
What do you recommend I do to get into a high paying software role?

Then what do you plan to do bhai?
well I'll def spam apply, if I can atleast get a govt job in tech then I'll just role with it. Otherwise I'll prob go for the cpa and get some accounting gig. Maybe I could utilize my cs degree as an IT auditor

All I rly need is something stable that pays 80k atleast. I only plan on working for 5 - 10 yrs, wanna eventually buy a gas station/liqour store, get into franchising, and build up a real estate portfolio to live off of passive income

I recommend electrical engineering or mechanical engineering cause they are not going to be replaced anytime soon and you can walk around more. Keep in mind that cybersecurity/compsci related jobs are gonna have you working with autistic incel types, so you are going to need to branch out really hard to make friends outside of work.

the issue with cybersecurity is u typically need several years of IT experience under ur belt to be taken seriously for any role

Switch to ML
I think the people who do fulfilling work in ML and also earn well are people who have pursued higher education and are interested to do research in private funded labs. Though most colleges in this man's country do not provide as good of an environment for learning ML as some very top tier foreign colleges do

Which country ? Is it Germany. I think there may be private labs in Germany. If he gets in them he can make bank and also do interesting research

Never mind I was wrong, Germany has a lot of government funded ML labs. I can post them but then the post did not ask for that

Niggas said the same thing to me for devops but I still got multiple super dream offers.
For normal people itโ€™s a shit field to start in. I advise going for standard SFE roles then branching into cyber sec

Itโ€™s almost impossible for 90% of people to break into outta uni

Bhai ChatGPT will get your job

Take away the "cyber" part, then yes
An ideal job that's relatively easy to get is a cushy security job doing fuck all
