I currently live in Japan due to military reasons. But if you want some insight… I would reccommend you to learn Japanese and get your N1 certificate, file for a work visa in Japan and score some kind of job, open up a SoftBank account to have a JP phone number, then open up a Japanese bank account and then you can start looking for apartments as a foreigner. Keep in mind Japan is highly racist and xenophobic so expect to be discriminated when in search for a job and apartment. Everyone here is conformed so self expression is looked down upon, and it’s one of the countries with the most suicide rates. You’ll be exploited at work, underpaid, and not to mention workforce harassment is common. I’ll recommend living in Osaka or Tokyo for more opportunities. The country is nice on the outside but there are downsides when you come here.

Also, Japanese women are extremely awkward and they’ll highly cheat on you. And yen typically crashes often so better find a remote job to make USD.
