should i take this expired furosemide

my mom for whatever reason has furo in our medicine closet that she hasnt touched for years, its about 6 months expired is it safe to take it? hopefully its just less effective and i dont have to throw it away

i mean on the prescription bottle it says

DISCARD BY: (date)

so idfk maybe by law they have to put it there but from what ive read online it just becomes less effective, its not rlly dangerous to take “expired”

Depends on each drug. Most drugs are usually jsut less effective after expiry due to degradation but some can be dangerous because they degrade into dangerous substances.
