They're not that dark, plus the tips of your lashes will have no pigment. Try a brown mascara and see the difference it makes. Then permanently tint if you like the effect.

Depending on the part of the world that you're in, the brand name of the medication is called Latisse (USA) or Lumigan (Europe). It can only be purchased with a doctors prescription, but this is easily attainable from plenty of cosmetic doctors.

It's medication, so it actually works, and grows your eyelashes naturally overtime.

A little trick is dying your eyelashes black with a dye (you can be eyelash and eyebrow dye at a chemist), which will give the illusion of fuller eyelashes whilst maintaining a masculine look. It only takes ten minutes to dye them, and it lasts for weeks and weeks.
