Saturation in skin tone = How pure or rich the color looks.

  • Saturated skin tones have more visible color in them—golden, red, peach, copper, or even deep brown hues show up more clearly.
    • These tones feel more “alive” or radiant.
    • Think golden-brown, warm bronze, or deep espresso—tones that pop more visually.
    • Even lighter saturated tones might have a noticeable golden or peachy warmth.
  • Muted skin tones, on the other hand, are toned down with more grey, beige, or olive undertones.
    • They feel softer, dustier, or a little more neutral.
    • You’ll see this a lot in people with olive or beige-ish skin that looks a bit cooler or "duller" in color compared to someone with a golden or reddish glow.

  • Saturated = vivid, full color
  • Muted = faded, more neutral
I think you'll see a lot of Biracial people and Latino people that have a more muted skin color, I think someone like Brian Whittaker would count as Warm + Muted (I might be thinking of neutral though). To me, that kind of skin tone is intuitively off-putting. I don't think it looks sickly or aesthetically horrible, but it just doesn't look good to me in an intuitive low appeal kind of way.

Cool undertones have a bluish, pinkish, or reddish base. Cool-toned skin often appears to have a slight blue, pink, or ruby hue beneath the surface.
Neutral undertones have a balance between warm and cool elements, with no strong leaning toward either yellow or blue undertones.
Warm undertones have a golden, peachy, or yellow base. Warm-toned skin often appears to have a slight yellow, golden, or olive hue beneath the surface.
Olive (as shown in the bottom rows) typically refers to a greenish-yellow undertone that can appear in skin with both warm and cool properties.

I think that a Warm + Saturated tone 4th (or 5th?) from the left , that is like a light or medium golden-brown, is intuitively extremely high appeal. This is ideal imo:

Something like this might be a darker version?

Whatever this is also looks very high appeal:

Lastly, I think olive + muted tones just look the worst and carry the worst appeal, they genuinely give a sickly appearance. But I think I might just not like olive tones in general tbh. Possibly because they often just look muted regardless.

That last woman I posted might be considered some tone of olive, if so then she is the exception.
