My username "slop slinger" is the inspiration behind the popularization of the word "slop" to describe unwanted content produced by AI--a kind of AI equivalent to spam. As Benjamin Hoffman puts it, "slop, at least in the fast-moving world of online message boards, is a broad term that has developed some traction in reference to shoddy or unwanted A.I. content in social media, art, books and, increasingly, in search results." In the same article, Adam Aleksic said that “[w]hat we always see with any slang is that it starts in a niche community and then spreads from there."
Recall that I joined lookism in 2015 and around 2018 I picked up my posting activity, becoming the user with the most posts and reacts on that website before it was shut down. In the last year or so, the word "slop" has entered public discourse much in the way other notions and terminology promulgated on PSL forums have radiated outwards. I believe I am singlehandedly responsible for this. For several years my username was plastered across the front page of that website from which people have taken all these terms that are now vernacular slang. It requires no leap of imagination then to assert that my username has entered the minds of millions of people over the years as well.
Recall that the majority of my posts on that website were trolling, useless, and utterly worthless. They were also usually low-effort, but maybe high-effort in the way they were low-effort. They also all seemed to follow a similar script that, one could say, seems AI generated: faux-cringe tongue-in-cheek-but-also-up-a-butthole-or-something pseudointellectual contrarian-faggot producer of revolting, undesirable content that always tries to be one step ahead in neverending abyssal-uncovering-of-another-layer-of-irony-haha-i-gotcha game of incel board meta-politics and who thinks he's so above binaries of masculinity and femininity, normie and weirdo, trying to be unpredictable in how predictable he is while also trying to be predictable in how unpredictable he is, and so on. It is therefore no surprise that this term has entered in public discourse to describe, according to Wiktionary: "Content or media of little-to-no value, especially that which is produced consistently and according to trends to satisfy a recommendation algorithm or consumerist demands," and perhaps more to the point, "Junk output from generative artificial intelligence published on the internet in the guise of legitimate content." Slop therefore appears a fitting descriptor for this kind of AI content not only because it refers to undesirable-looking food, but because of its close connection to my posting style on lookism.
