Some Chads or gl guys obviously can look good with a trustworthy look, but it's true that same look comes off as too beta-ish for other guys, and even for Chads too. Trustworthiness depends on facial structure, but smiling is an ADDED EFFORT to convince others of your trustworthiness.
When I did OLD and used smiley/happy/"nice guy" passed off photos I got like 4 matches and 1 message from a whale ....
Then I tried doing a mean mugging, low brow, autist glare with an undertone of thug/killer/psycho ... Got 60+ matches but zero messages.
There's a lesson learned here ... It all depends onwhat kinda look/impression you wanna give. Besides pheno, expression can still set a BIG opinion on preconceiving you/deciding what kind of person they THINK you will be based on whether your smile, look easygoing or look but just read this ... "Smiling gets you a wife, scowling gets you a one night stand" Even LOOKS ASIDE this info still matters in context:

That article above sums it up nicely, but avoids some lingo so I can TL;DR ... Smile comes across as trust/more beta, frown = sinister, less trusting, more evil. "Smiling gets you a wife" signals smiling is security, easiness, more trust, more beta, while not smiling is more opposite.
While the smiling, happy guys can still pull if they are good looking and got the right energy, it's a fact that smiling is a more submissive thing -- it's a way to let others know you are okay with them, and they should be okay with you. But scowl/frown is unsecure, uncertain, dark, more low trust or dark triad maybe, etc. So the expression by DEFAULT of your face can still sway others opinion of you even looks aside because expresisons are CHANGEABLE instantly by a significant margin, whereas looks can't without more preparations/time/costs. So smile wisely.
