A lot of advice here is made from people refusing to give up thinking they can ascend and today people are spreading pure pseudoscience using chatgpt generated words that they have a kindergarten level understanding of. Everyone does this and the cycle goes back and forth between people affirming each other's blatant ignorance to basic biology. Now I'm not a biologist but nor am I ignorant, I don't lack common sense and I actually research the things I do/preach. The first part of this post will be dedicated to explaining what smoking does to your face, this part is meant for people who take advice without truly understanding what they are listening to. The second part of this post will be dedicated to what a better alternative to smoking is and if you can “mimic” the positive effects of smoking for aesthetics. Remember nothing here is “new information” this post is simply meant to work against people spreading pure homemade science facts. (The post will end with the same basic advice that you've heard a million times because that's what actually works unfortunately.)

part 1: what smoking does to your face and why it can be seen as aesthetical.
Before we get into this, I'd like to tell you that i personally do not recommend smoking to improve your appearance read this link to see an overview on the many things smoking does for your skin- “https://irsa.clinic/en/smoking-and-its-effect-on-skin”.

Moving on I will talk about why smoking makes your cheeks appear thinner/“hollow”. Smoking narrows down your blood vessels leading to limited oxygen supply that can reach your skin cells. This can age your skin and cause wrinkles read (https://www.healthline.com/health/smoking-wrinkles). The article talks about the breakdown of collagen and that is exactly what causes the sunken in cheeks in smoke addicts. The degradation of skin strength leads to “sagging and a loss of firmness”. Many people think that smokers have hollower cheeks due to a lack of appetite but the actual reason is because of broken down skin cells. Now i know you folks wont be pressing my sources but if you do press this one “https://biologyinsights.com/does-smoking-give-you-hollow-cheeks/” i could literally just copy and paste the text under “Physiological Causes of Deterioration” but you might as well read it for yourself, its basically a far better explanation then i can give myself.

Part 2: Now that we’ve covered what smoking does for your appearance you need to weigh the pros and cons of smoking.
Pros: broken down skin that could lead to sagging cheeks mimicking low fat lean face.

Cons: Broken down skin that could lead to wrinkles, aging or cause your health indicators to be ruined. Also very important to mention it inhibits osteoblast (there's a lot more cons of smoking on skin but ive already linked a full list and no one is interested enough in this thread to hear it all!)

Now ideally we would like to achieve the pros while avoiding the cons. Ironically, smoking damages collagen but you can strengthen it instead to prevent wrinkles while still emphasizing cheek hollowing. Collagen gives your skin structure and firmness, acting like a scaffolding for your cheeks. Even if your facial fat is reduced, strong collagen keeps the skin from sagging, so hollow cheeks look sculpted instead of aged. So to summarize the absolute single thing that smoking achieves is ruin your skin making your cheeks sag while setting you up for long term failure i hate to say it because i hate to hear it but if you want hollow cheeks lose weight and if your lean and dont have hollow cheeks thats a bonemass issue, smoking wont magically ascend your face. Sorry for the grass is green post but ALOT and I mean ALOT of people dont think this way. If you think smoking is worth it after weighing pros and cons there is not a lot to be said, i am not calling anyone stupid for smoking but if you do so without understanding what it does to your face i strongly advice you to read an actual study no hate to anyone:)))))
