I believe in the simulation theory - life is pretty much like a video game, your consciousness created it, but it is also bound by the rules set at the beginning, so cheating is pretty unlikely to exist, otherwise it won't make much sense to play the life game, just like cheating in a video game becomes boring pretty fast since there's no challenge anymore.

Yes, this is very similar to techniques used in video games to save memory and computing power: you don't render objects until you actually look at them, you can ignore certain variables if they aren't relevant, you use different rendering algorithms depending if objects are closer or farther from you, etc.
