So what is eugenics?

As I understand it, it is selective choosing of people to breed together in order for better genetic traits to pass to the next generation. Basically what farmers do to cows and what not but applied to people. I have questions tho about it

1. How would this be enforced? I’m assuming it would be via the government but how would the government actually act to do this? Would they force two good looking people to have kids unless they be punished? Wouldn’t this get rid of the point of life which imo is to be happy? I say this cause you’re basically forced to live a set life with set people so you’d basically be a slave. This ofc doesn’t make people very happy.

2. Wouldn’t making the government prioritize health be better overall for looks? I saw people talk about how the older generations were better looking cause of better health and hormones (estrogen and testosterone) even tho they have the same genetics as we do. So instead of the government prioritizing certain genes shouldn’t they prioritize health and a good hormonal balance?

3. Ig there’s also a racial element to eugenics im assuming it’s just talking about how whites are the superior race which i disagree with

Iq wise idk I read that the gap in iq of black and white children is diminishing. Height wise yeah whites are taller on average but the tallest people on earth are like some tribe in Africa forgot which one. Looks wise whites would have a slight advantage. Physical health wise wouldn’t that be Africans? Since they’re faster for example on average

It assumes some group (whether the government, scientists, or whoever) knows what traits are best for the future. But who gets to decide what "better" means? Strong militaristic men? Healthy, smart, and adaptable individuals? The path isn’t clear, and choosing one might exclude traits we later realize are important. If we were to give a hunter gatherer eugenics, he'd certainly put autists into undesirables, hardy, fast, and other qualities specifically for better hunting into desirable traits. So a homogeneous group that only hunts. But he doesn't know that after thousands of years, one such autist came up with facebook!

All this looks like politics. The monarch who personally decides what kind of people there should be, or aristocrats, a narrow layer of people deciding what kind of people there should be, or all the people participating in this, who will also have their voice in this matter. Monarchy, aristocracy, or politeia.

Even if "smart brains" could figure out solutions, it’s a gamble. For example, traits we prioritize now (like intelligence or strength) might come at the cost of other essential traits, like creativity, empathy, or immune resilience. I don't trust a narrow layer of old farts or even scientists to decide the future of humanity sounds terrifying to me.

Yeah true you’re right, the point about focusing on health is valid. We do have access to the best nutrition and healthcare in history, yet many still choose junk food.

If I were to create a "new race" through eugenics, it’s essentially implying that the people of this engineered group are superior in some way: healthier, smarter, better-looking, etc. But if someone argues that no race or group is inherently superior, then eugenics becomes pointless because it undermines the supposed purpose of "improvement."

Yeah saying that a person created through eugenics isn’t inherently better than a person created naturally invalidates the whole process. Without a clear goal (like superiority or survival advantage), eugenics just becomes a wasteful, oppressive experiment with no meaningful outcome. It's like trying to fix something that isn’t broken.

Eugenics leads to homogeneity. A genetically uniform population would be highly vulnerable to unforeseen threats like diseases or environmental changes, viruses that would kill all the population. Evolution thrives on diversity because it gives a species the flexibility to adapt. We could even create different races inside a society, for example a race of geniuses, and a race of strong people, a race of hardy people, and so on. That's what I don't want. Eugenics is terrifying shit tbh hopefully it's prohibited. My thoughts tbh

Well I’m not a eugenicist so I’m not really arguing for it yk. I disagree with that notion cause a single race can’t claim genetic superiority when there are other races that have them beat in certain categories. Historically wise too there have been periods of time when various cultures and races were the dominant race regarding achievements.

But yeah you’re right cause there has to be a goal for a race when it comes to eugenics and ig that would be being better than the previous generation. If they keep developing that they’d be clearly better than other races too ig.

It’s an interesting idea tho but I doubt it can be put into practice cause of the things you said and cause it all just seems like a dystopia where people are lab rats.
