Sun is literally one giant thermonuclear reactor producing tremenous amount of energy that is hitting earth with high quantity every single minute. Harnessing that energy along with usage of different types of renewable energies would be the easiest way to achieve a post energy scarcity state of civilization, I think this is going to happen sooner or later anyway at least after we start running out of oil and other resources on earth.
