Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health condition in which you can't stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance — a flaw that appears minor or can't be seen by others. But you may feel so embarrassed, ashamed and anxious that you may avoid many social situations.

When you have body dysmorphic disorder, you intensely focus on your appearance and body image, repeatedly checking the mirror, grooming or seeking reassurance, sometimes for many hours each day. Your perceived flaw and the repetitive behaviors cause you significant distress and impact your ability to function in your daily life.

The Truth
The vast majority (practically almost all) of those who obsess over their looks do not have a grasp on the many indicators of attractiveness, and how one can find and improve upon them. Determing your facial flaws only by eyeballing never works, because often, you'll mistake a perfectly fine facial trait as a flaw, when that isn't the case. For example, I thought my nose was too big, and my philtrum was too huge (my philtrum is huge), however, by measuring my face, I've determined that the problem lies within how narrow and small my mouth and lips are (my unideal mouth to nose ratio), which heavily exacerbates many facial traits that are objectively normal. To really determine how attractive you really are and identify facial flaws, you NEED to do ACTUAL FUCKING research.

Many of those who attempt to solve their proclaimed "body dysmorphia" do so by distracting themselves.

These aren't fucking solutions at all! The root problem is your own appearance, not how you feel about it! You need to FULLY analyze your face, find flaws, and determine solutions to fix those flaws. Some of body dysmorphia is true (spiralling out of control due to your perceived appearance), and distracting yourself DOES work. However, being logical works better and offers a higher return of investment because looks play a heavy part on how others perceive you. Distracting yourself doesn't fix how ugly you really are, therefore you'll be perceived as less. Sucks to suck, but it's the truth...
