I used to think for the longest time that squats and deadlifts were the best exercises and super important and without them you couldn't look good.

I've now realised that's complete cope and bs. No one gives a F about your legs or MUH HAMSTRINGS AND ABDUCTORS. People judge your arms and shoulders and chest and back. If you have okayish legs you won't really need much more to have a good lower body jfl. Look at Zyzz. He was aesthetic asf with okayish legs.

I've just stopped doing high volume squats and deadlifts. I just do 3 sets of back squats and 3 sets of Romanian Deadlifts and that's it. I might start running up hills too to build up my legs a little and give them an athletic look but just FUCK doing 16 sets of legs a week. Now I'm gonna spend more time working on my upper chest (weak part) and traps (also a bit weak)

Is it not obvious. Leg presses, low volume squats n cardio on bike are enough for legs.

anyone who been in the shit knows that no exercise is mandatory but there are mandatory movement patterns. when you say squat, it doesnt necessarily mean back squat, you can still do squats like machine hack squats and goblet squats. deadlifting doesn't necessarily mean conventional deadlifts, you can still do romanian deadlifts or rack pulls. no exercise is mandatory but it depends on your goals.

if you are just looking to obtain a good physique you dont need to squat or deadlift at all. yet you still need some work for them for a balanced physique. neglecting muscles totally is never a good idea. honestly for bodybuilding purposes, isolation exercises might even be superior overall to compounds in some sense.

but if you are trying to be a strength athlete or playing a sport where these exercises are highly beneficial for you to do and you don't do them, even in minimal amounts, you are just living in a dream if you think leg extensions and calf raises will give you the same benefits as squats and deadlifts.

And no one said anything about having "noodle legs". It's just that I'm not prioritizing lower body through muh squats and deadlifts.

Yeah I agree. That's why I've decided to still squat and deadlift but just reduce the volume tbh.

Heavy back Squats and deadlifts done 2-3 times a week are a one way ticket to injury land, bulgarian split squats and front squats are good tho, same for romanians.

Gym htb’s like when you have bigger legs then them, and glutes are an underrated muscle group. Also, squats have a cascading effect on every exercise. Deadlifts however r garbage.

Machines mog freeweights for aesthetics/getting jacked.

Significantly less injury risk, and can train to absolute failure like a psycho without needing a spotter. Add the stability factor, and you can actually stimulate the muscle you want to grow instead of other assisting stabilizer muscles
