Both thinning and the hairline. Just look at your hairline, if it is recessed at the temples more than an inch you are for sure balding. Typically, thinning happens along the temples first until all hair is lost. The genetics of male pattern baldness is still not totally figured out, although they do know its heritable to some degree, anything like your maternal grandfather having it doesnt really mean anything
