So this will be straight to the point. Another from-experience post that has helped me.
If you are struggling with working and being productive,
constantly being tempted by stuff like video games and other time-wasting content/media like dickTiktok etc..
You are probably tired of trying different methods. sick of time-wasting and bleary-eyed from watching your sunk potential, but too cooked to stop it from happening.

I gotchu brother.

There is a way to improve. It will not be massive, but it WILL be a CHANGE. and ONCE YOU DO THIS, the rest and discipline becomes easier.

All you have to do is,

SIMPLY turn your computer monitor/phone to grayscale/(greyscale) and watch your dopamine and doomscrolling drop and conversely, your productivity and work ethic to improve RADICALLY. and it doesn't even cost ANYTHING, doesn't take weeks to implement, doesn't take Goggins levels of discipline/willpower to pull off.

How does this work?
our monkey brains are designed to crave instant gratification. unfortunately, times have changed and said thought systems have NOT.
Even worse, nowadays companies and TEAMS of the world's SMARTEST PEOPLE are working YEARS, SYSTEMATICALLY devising scientific ways and methods to hijack your dopamine system and keep you hooked onto deceptively addictive content(and make them bank).

^THIS, is exactly why it is so hard to sit down and work for an hour, but play video games which are OJECTIVELY HARDER AND TAKE MORE MINDPOWER, feels basically effortless..
because the dopamine released from working is pitifully low compared to spikes you receive from playing video games, scrolling shorts, or jerking off. It's a negative feedback loop.
(I could've explained this in better detail but that's really besides the point and i don't want to make this a word salad, i might make a post about this later)

A big part of this is colors. you may not be aware, but color perception affects dope. There's a REASON looksmax.org has the notification in bright red. hell, all apps do and abuse this feature. Video games use bright, stimulating colors. sound effects. All of this makes your brain release dope and motivates you to keep using them, which is not beneficial.

So, cutting that out by turning it grayscale should work right? YES. it is deceptively simple but quite effective. i encourage you to try it out now. if it doesn't work you can roast me in the replies but it worked wonders for me and i think it should benefit yall as well.

Anyways, if you red that to the end i appresh it. take what you will; hope this helps. Kind regards, from Megfish21. 👍

dnr tbh but best advice is literally just do it. you can read botb threads on here until the cows come home but actually doing stuff is what makes the difference. doing less makes you more demotivated doing ANYTHING makes you more motivated. you need things which give you drive too. stop thinking so negatively all the time about your situation instead make it better. self loathing with depression is a hell of a thing so change it. ugh my comment sounds exactly “like just be confident bro“, entire point being stop being such a nigger bitch be the guy who’s better than other guys. you CAN get there you will if you truly want it. it doesn’t seem lots of people on the internet actually want stuff enough though.

good read. quality post OP. For anyone struggling with discipline, for me the BIGGEST steps were the SMALLEST steps. do micro tasks that require little discipline it will accumulate. ALSO dont be overly self critical.
