Every time Goku used kaioken to double and triple his strength it would put a tremendous strain on his body, one time when he did kaioken times 20 it almost killed him.

But he can swallow a senzu bean and be healed almost instantly. Unfortunately there are no healing beans in the real world for steroid usage.
