Long term, nothing beats competence, delivering high quality work and results, you will get paid for that. You have to stick with it.

Don't let the intrusive thoughts win, you will see growth and success long term, it just won't happen fast, and there will be periods of struggle, setbacks, hardcore tests. Just don't put any more barriers in your way besides the actual work that you need to get done. Ignore the politics, ignore the mindgames. So whatever incentivises their progression, may be at odds with what incentivises your progression. "Incentives" can be at odds. So the key when working in a business with others is to watch out for people where your incentives are at odds, because the game becomes more zero sum then.
